Welcome to the Smoke Free Indy Website!

Smoke Free Indy continues to work to make sure ALL workers are protected by law against the serious health hazards from secondhand smoke.
There are workers that were left behind after the current law was implemented in March of 2006.
We know that secondhand smoke is deadly, not just a mere annoyance.
We believe that all workers should have the same protection…whether you work in an office or bar, whether you took the bar exam or you are a bartender; the law should cover all. Let’s make Indianapolis a truly, world-class city.
Proposal 18:
On January 9th Angela Mansfield, Ben Hunter, John Barth and Jeff Miller, along with several other co-sponsors introduced Proposal 18, a smoke free air law, that if passed, will strengthen the current law by removing exemptions for bars, bowling alleys, hotel/motel rooms, workplaces, and nursing homes. This law, while not perfect, will protect a majority of Indianapolis workers who are currently exposed to the dangers of secondhand smoke.
Proposal 18 passed out of the Rules & Public Policy Committee of the Indianapolis City Council on January 17th and will be heard before the full council on Monday January 30th, 2012 at 7pm. Please come out and show your support.
Now’s the time for Indy to be smoke-free!
